Resumo: The aim of this study is to identify, through an integrative literature review, the benefits of prenatal care in the context of preventing obstetric complications. This is an integrative literature review that used the PICo strategy (P - refers to patient, population or problem;I - studied intervention or interest; and Co - context). The articles were searched in the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Nursing Database (BDENF) via the Virtual Health Library (BVS), and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases, using the combined descriptors - pregnancy complications, prenatal care and primary health care and their alternative terms. The inclusion criteria were primary articles, available in full, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, from 2018 to 2023. Theses, dissertations, course completion work, review studies and research outside the aforementioned criteria were excluded. A total of 1,127 articles were obtained. After applying the filters, 167 articles were selected forprior reading of titles and abstracts and, of these, 44 were read in full, excluding 34 because they did not meet the study’s objective. The final sample consisted of 10 articles. The research analyzed showed that hypertensive syndromes, gestational diabetes and hemorrhagic syndromes were the main causes of complications in the pregnancy cycle, as well as consequences of the use of psychoactive substances during pregnancy, identified during prenatal care. The benefits of prenatal care were seen as a diagnostic, prophylactic and educational tool during pregnancy, strengthening the bonds between female users and professionals.Even with the support of pregnancy safety measures, maternal morbidity and mortality still persists. The study reinforces the importance of prenatal care for a safe and planned pregnancy, especially when there are underlying diseases and a history of previous complications.

The study reinforces the importance of prenatal care for a safe and planned pregnancy, especially when there are underlying diseases and a history of previous complications.O objetivo deste estudo é identificar, por meio de revisão integrativa da literatura, os benefícios do pré-natal no contexto preventivo das intercorrências obstétricas.
