Resumo: The Brazilian population aging process brings challenges to the work of psychologists in the context of public health, especially in public policies, a recent workspace. This paper aims to characterize the role of psychologists in the application of public policies in the context of public health to the elderly people. It is a quantitative and qualitative observational research carried out with 196 psychologists working in Health Councils and Rights Councils in Bahia-Brazil, using a questionnaire on the Survey Monkey platform as an instrument. Statistical analyzes were performed for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative data. It was found that most participants reported guiding their practices by public policies, but the elderly public was the least mentioned. Although public policies for the elderly people have been identified, some participants declared practices guided by traditional models of clinical psychology and welfare practices. Our analyzes show that professionals need continuing education, guided by public policies in an integral and intersectoral manner, especially at this time when such policies are under threat in a scenario of growing population aging.

Este artigo tem como objetivo caracterizar a atuação de psicólogos(as) na aplicação de políticas públicas voltadas para a saúde do público idoso, em comparação a outras categorias etárias. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, quantitativa e qualitativa, realizada com 196 psicólogos(as) atuantes em Conselhos de Saúde e conselhos de direito na Bahia- Brasil.Utilizou-se como instrumento um questionário na plataforma Survey Monkey. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas para dados quantitativos e análise de conteúdo para dados qualitativos. Verificou-se que a maioria dos(as) participantes informou nortear suas práticas pelas políticas públicas, porém o público idoso foi o menos mencionado. Ainda que políticas públicas dos idosos tenham sido identificadas, alguns participantes declararam práticas orientadas por modelos tradicionais da clínica psicológica e práticas assistencialistas.
