Resumo: | Objective: Levels of self-perception of happiness, depressive symptoms and associated factors were evaluated in people from the Longevity Center. Method: transversal study, 225 individuals over 50 years of age. Self-Perception of Happiness defined as “the degree to which a person positively evaluates the global quality of life in the present” measured by the faces scale. A socioeconomic questionnaire and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-5) were used. Relative and absolute frequencies were calculated and associations were analyzed using simple and multiple logistic regression. Results: greater participation of women 77.1% and average age 64.7 years. Older adults people who have fallen 1 or more times are 2.61 (95%CI: 1.16-5.84) times more likely to not feel happy, 18.41 (95%CI: 5.23-64.78) times more likely of being dissatisfied with life and more likely to prefer staying at home than going out and doing different things (p<0.05); worse self-perception of health and not feeling happy are 2.28 (95%CI: 1.28-4.09) and 2.51 (1.41-4.50) times more likely to get upset easily. Not married, fewer people in the family, non-Catholics and not happy, have 3.02 (95%CI: 1.27-7.21), 2.63 (95%CI: 1.00-6.92), 3.06 (95%CI: 1.43-6.57) and 3.78 (95%CI: 1.83-7.80) times more likely to feel helpless. Fear of falling and not feeling happy 2.58 (95%CI: 1.07-6.19) and 3.88 (95%CI: 1.70-8.83) times more likely to feel useless. Conclusion: The social support of family and friends helps the elderly to feel happier and not suffering falls is important to have a better quality of life in general of older adults. |
