Resumo: This article discusses how society networking and Web 2.0 are used to support self-organization of new social movements. We focus our discussion on the role of social media in articulating the recent riots in North Africa and the Middle East Countries. We question how the phenomenon of globalization, from the articulation of new media, may be able to establish a new democracy and expand the notion of citizenship.

Cuestionamos cómo el fenómeno de la globalización, desde la articulación de los nuevos medios, pueden ser capaces de establecer una nueva democracia y ampliar la noción de ciudadanía.O presente artigo discute como a sociedade em rede e a Web 2.0 servem de suporte para a auto-organização dos novos movimentos sociais. Centramos a nossa discussão no papel das mídias sociais, na articulação das recentes revoltas nos países do norte da África e no Oriente Médio.
