Resumo: This research seeks to understand the informational behavior of the students who have won the Young Scientist Award (Prêmio Jovem Cientista) through the investigation of their actions, thoughts, feelings and strategies in carrying out academic research. Nine students from college majors such as Foreign Trade, Communication, Graphic Design, Law, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physiotherapy, International Relations and Technology in Productivity and Quality Management were interviewed in 2008. The categories chosen to analyze the informational behavior were specific literature reviewing, establishment of research focus, selection and use of information sources, writing and final presentation of the students’ work. It is possible to state that the ISP Model is a reliable method for understanding the informational behavior of youth in the practice of academic research. The Young Scientist Award can be considered a milestone in the life of its winners with regard to research learning process, social recognition and professional career development.

Nueve estudiantes de los cursos de Comercio Exterior, Comunicación, Diseño Gráfico, Derecho, Ingeniería de Alimentos, Ingeniería Química, Fisioterapia, Relaciones Internacionales y Tecnología en Gestión de la Calidad y Productividad participaron de una encuesta en 2008. Las categorías de análisis del comportamiento informacional formaron la revisión de literatura, establecimiento del foco de la investigación, selectividad y uso de las fuentes de información, escritura y presentación final del trabajo. Es posible afirmar que el Modelo ISP es un referente importante para la comprensión del comportamiento inforrnacional de jóvenes en la práctica de la investigación académica. El premio “Jovem Cientista” puede ser considerado un marco importante en la vida de los estudiantes vencedores en relación al aprendizaje de investigación, al reconocimiento social y al desarrollo de la carrera profesional.A pesquisa busca compreender o comportamento informacional dos estudantes vencedores do Prêmio Jovem Cientista, através de suas ações, pensamentos, sentimentos e estratégias durante a realização das pesquisas acadêmicas. Nove estudantes dos cursos de Comércio Exterior, Comunicação, Design Gráfico, Direito, Engenharia de Alimentos, Engenharia Química, Fisioterapia, Relações Internacionais e Tecnologia em Gestão da Qualidade e Produtividade foram entrevistados no ano de 2008. As categorias de análise do comportamento informacional foram a revisão de literatura, estabelecimento do foco da pesquisa, seleção e uso das fontes de informação, escrita e apresentação final do trabalho. É possível afirmar que o Modelo ISP é um referente importante para a compreensão do comportamento informacional de jovens na prática da pesquisa acadêmica. O Prêmio Jovem Cientista pode ser considerado um marco importante na vida dos estudantes vencedores em relação ao aprendizado de pesquisa, ao reconhecimento social e ao desenvolvimento da carreira profissional.
