“Just to have this book in my hands is already a challenge”: ‘oppositional books’ during the military regime, a case study

Resumo: Taking the way how the book Poemas do povo da noite (Poems of the people of the night) by Pedro Tierra was written and published alongside its political impact during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), this article aims to analyze the oppositional books in the end of that regime (Abertura Política period, the opening of the political system). It implies analyses regarding to: 1) the content of the book; 2) the writing context; 3) the path from the original text to the publication; 4) the Author’s profile; 5) the Publishers’ profile; 6) Author and Publisher’s political liaisons; 7) the book’s diffusion; 8) the book’s impact on the political world and the press; 9) the analyze of the book as a editorial and commercial product. By investigating how these issues are present in this determined work, we can define whether the book can be considered an oppositional book in that period.

By investigating how these issues are present in this determined work, we can define whether the book can be considered an oppositional book in that period.El objetivo de este articulo es, a partir de la reconstitución del modo como ha sido escrito y editado el libro Poema do Povo da Noite, de Pedro Tierra, y del papel político que la obra ha desempeñado, señalar algunas de las características de los libros de oposición al periodo de la apertura política (1974-1985). Eso engloba cuestiones relativas a: 1) contenido del libro; 2) condiciones en que el texto ha sido creado; 3) trayecto del original hasta el libro publicado; 4) perfil del autor; 5) perfil de la editora; 6) vinculaciones políticas del autor y de la editora; 7) difusión de la obra; 8) repercusión en los medios políticos y en la prensa; 9) análisis de la obra como producto editorial y comercial. Analizando como esas cuestiones se hacen presentes en una determinada obra podemos definir si ella puede ser considerada un libro de oposición al periodo en foco.O objetivo deste artigo é, a partir da reconstituição do modo como foi escrito e editado o livro Poemas do povo da noite, de Pedro Tierra, e do papel político que a obra desempenhou, assinalar algumas das características dos livros de oposição no período da abertura política (1974-1985). Isso engloba questões relativas a: 1) conteúdo do livro; 2) condições em que o texto foi criado; 3) percurso do original ao livro publicado; 4) perfil do autor; 5) perfil da editora; 6) ligações políticas do autor e da editora; 7) difusão da obra, 8) repercussão nos meios políticos e na imprensa; 9) análise da obra como produto editorial e comercial.
