Resumo: This paper aims to examine the arrest of Renato Tapajós in 1977 motivated by the publication of his book Em câmara lenta (In Slow Motion). It is the only case of a writer being arrested during the military dictatorship because of the content of a book. Besides, it is the only case in the recent history of Brazil of an apprehension because of a novel. We try to understand the peculiarity of this process and its place in the book history in Brazil. We argue for the idea that Tapajós’s arrest occurred as and attempt by the repression powers to prevent the publication of Left militants’ memory books.

Se trata del único escritor brasileño preso durante la dictadura militar por el contenido de un libro. Se trata mismo del único caso, en la historia reciente de Brasil, de la prisión de un autor en razón de una novela suya. En este articulo, se busca entender la especificidad de ese proceso y su lugar en la historia del libro en Brasil. Se defiende la idea de que la prisión de Renato Tapajós se dio como un intento de acción preventiva de las fuerzas de represión a la publicación de libros de memorias de militantes de izquierda.Esse artigo aborda a prisão do escritor Renato Tapajós, em 1977, motivada pela publicação de seu livro Em câmara lenta. Trata-se do único caso de um escritor preso durante a Ditadura Militar devido ao conteúdo de um livro. Trata-se mesmo de um caso único na história recente do País da prisão de um autor devido a um romance. Busca-se entender a especificidade desse processo e seu lugar na história do livro no Brasil.
