The uses of term diagnosis in the Archival Science

Resumo: This article presents a literature review on the practice of collectingdata on archives, based on a research carried out for a Master's degree aboutrecords survey in Brazil. It is a qualitative and descriptive study, based on abibliographic and documentary search. From the analysis carried out, it is notedthat the term “diagnóstico” (in Portuguese, which translates to “diagnosis” inEnglish) is not always used in other languages. We can observe the use of theterm “records survey” instead of “diagnosis” in English and, in French, “analyzedes besoins” and not “diagnostic.” In Brazil, records survey developed in thefield of Archival Science are entitled “diagnósticos de arquivo”.

Trata-se de um estudo de natureza qualitativa e descritiva, tendo como base um levantamento bibliográfico e documental. A partir da análise realizada, constata-se que o termo “diagnóstico” nem sempre é utilizado em outras línguas. Podemos observar o uso da expressão em inglês “records survey” ao invés de “diagnosis” e, em francês, “analyse des besoins” e não “diagnostic”.
