This paper is a bibliographical research aiming a reflection about the interdisciplinarity within the Information Science and how the area lacks studies that strongly demonstrate the contribution of other disciplines. The focus of this research is restricted to the approach to theoretical contribution of the cognitive sciences and the way students perceive that the understanding of the processes involved in mind may help to understand certain phenomena. The issue of indexed images and the way in which the imagery polysemy interfere directly in the conceptual analysis of documents on the particular interest of users and crawlers is emphasized. This paper aims to understand the phenomenon of polysemy, on a cognitive approach. It concludes that although it is evident the need for studies that address deeply the contribution of cognitive sciences at specific processes within the Information Science, the problem has not been sufficiently addressed by scholars in the field.
