Resumo: Using the news gathering as the key point to the analyses, this paper aims to define and describe the role that inquiry, research and accuracy of information play in contemporary journalisttic modus operandi. In order to identify how the investigative process acts on the journalistic 'final product', the chosen methodology was the elaboration of a criteria matrix to measure the presence of news gathering elements in news reports. That analytical proposal was implemented to evaluate published stories. The conclusions were a first attempt to identify how the news gathering criteria are used, as well as how the use or disposal of some of these elements can contribute to the quality of journalistic texts.

Con el fin de ver el papel que el proceso de investigación tiene en el 'producto final' del periodismo, se ha elegido como método la construcción de una matriz de criterios que dimensionen la presencia de elementos de verificación en textos periodísticos. Esta propuesta se puso en práctica en la evaluación analítica de noticias publicadas, teniendo como conclusiones un primer intento de identificar cómo los criterios para la investigación son utilizados, y cómo el uso o eliminación de algunos de estos elementos puede contribuir para la calidad del texto informativo.Tomando a apuração jornalística como ponto-chave de análise, este artigo tem como propósito a delimitação e descrição do espaço que a investigação, a pesquisa, o apuro com a informação, ocupam no modus operandi jornalístico contemporâneo. De modo a visualizar o papel que o processo de investigação atua no ‘produto final’ do fazer jornalístico, optou-se como método a elaboração uma matriz de critérios que dimensionem a presença de elementos de apuração jornalística em textos noticiosos.
