Night Shift High Schools in the State of São Paulo: indicators of quality.

Resumo: This paper is the result of a compared study, developed in ten public school located in the state of São Paulo, in which one expected to find quality night shift High School. For the selection of the investigated cases we took into account indicators developed under the scope of the research financed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and UNESCO entitled High School: experiences in public school’s (2005). From the analysis of the data collected through questionnaires addressed to professionals and students of the night shift of each school, coupled with field study, institutional characteristics and exterior school factors were presented; in the opinion of students and professionals these constitute evidence of the quality of the school. Among these, some stand out: curriculum flexibility, leadership of the school administration, an environment conducive to dialogue between school professionals and students, and positive expectation of students’ future. Such factors corroborate previous studies.

Such factors corroborate previous studies.Este trabalho resulta de um estudo comparado, desenvolvido em dez escolas públicas localizadas no Estado de São Paulo, nas quais se pressupunha a oferta do Ensino Médio Noturno de qualidade. Para a seleção dos casos investigados, consideraram-se indicadores elaborados no âmbito da pesquisa Ensino Médio: experiências em escolas públicas (2005) financiada pelo MEC/Unesco. Da análise das informações coletadas por meio de questionários endereçados aos profissionais e alunos do noturno de cada escola, aliada à observação de campo, apresentam-se características institucionais e fatores extra-escolares que, na opinião desses segmentos, constituem evidências da qualidade da escola. Dentre essas se destacam: flexibilidade curricular, liderança dos dirigentes, clima de diálogo entre profissionais da escola e estudantes e expectativa positiva em relação ao futuro dos alunos.
