Intentional Homicide in the City of Rio de Janeiro: A Comparison Between the Bases of Safety and Health

Resumo: This article aims to compare two homicide information databases, the Mortality Information System and the civil police database. The analyzed data was limited to Rio de Janeiro district, Brazil, in the period between 2008 and 2012, and exploratory analysis was used regarding temporal distribution, victims profile and neighborhood of the occurrences. In order to conclude if the databases were similar, non-parametric tests were used to verify whether or not there were dependencies. Wilcoxon test result indicated that the two databases have similar behavior while the Contingency Table pointed out heterogeneous behavior -- the variables year and race are presented differently in the two analyzed databases.

Foram utilizadas análises exploratórias sobre a distribuição temporal, perfil das vítimas e bairro de ocorrência. Para concluir se as bases apresentam semelhança utilizaram-se testes não paramétricos para verificar se há ou não dependência. O resultado do Teste de Wilcoxon indicou que as duas bases têm comportamentos semelhantes, enquanto a Tabela de Contingência apontou heterogeneidade -- variáveis ano e raça se apresentam de forma diferente nas bases. Intentional Homicide in the City of Rio de Janeiro: A Comparison Between the Bases of Safety and Health aims to compare two homicide information databases, the Mortality Information System and the civil police database.
