Resumo: Impugning the traditional analysis rooted in concepts of acculturation, helenization or dependency of Celtic chiefdoms from West Hallstatt zone, we propose that the contacts between Massalia and the chiefdoms of Vix and Hochdorf consisted of relations created by diplomatic alliances, based on guest-friendship. This article therefore focuses on the interplay of the guest friendship practices and the commensal politics in the Celtic chiefdoms of Vix and Hochdorf political economy, by analyzing the dynamics of power, prestige and gift giving.
