Resumo: The objective of this paper is to discuss the application of the law of diminishing returns in the study of collapse of the Western Roman Empire. In this paper I emphasize the relationship between the imperial politic and the core and regional elites during the Ilith century that display a significant loss of an established level of sociopolitical complexity.
