Resumo: Our aim is to analyze the deification ceremony of the emperor Lucius Septmius Severus, which occurred after his death, as defined by the Roman tradition. Furthermore, we intend to analyze what were the symbolic functions of thisapotheosis and what were the political objectives of his sons and successors, Geta and Caracalla, when they realized it. The ceremony is described in detail in Herodianus' work, "History of the Roman Empire after Marcus Aurelius".
