The aim of this paper is to investigate if there is child labor intergenerational persistence, using separating Probit models for urban and rural areas of Brazil. Moreover, we decompose the child labor variation between 1992 and 2004 in order to understand the factors behind the child labor decrease in the period. The results show that if the parents were child workers in the past, this increases the probability of child labor of their children and this is true in Brazilian urban and rural areas. However, the impact is stronger in rural areas. Moreover, an important factor explaining the fall of child labor in the period was the increase of parents’ schooling. |
