O disco, situado no ar ambiente, tinha a superfície superior aquecida e exposta horizontalmente. O aquecimento foi feito pot resistência de fio, embutida no prato. Tomamos precauções com o objetivo de minimizar os efeitos de casuais correntes de ar. O calor gerado na resistência deixava a aparelhagem através de vários caminhos. As perdas de calor estranhas àquela investigada foram calculadas individualmente e subtraídas do total, fornecendo o calor perdido por convecção natural da superfície plana e horizontal do disco. Os valores obtidos comparamos com aqueles prognosticados por McAdams, sendo a discrepância da ordem de dez por cento. Finalmente, com base na experiência adquirida no desenrolar dos trabalhos, projetamos aparelhagem capaz de fornecer resultados definitivos e acurados.porUniversidade Federal do Rio de JaneiroPrograma
