‘Racial’ Integralism: : the figure of the Jew in Gustavo Barroso’s Brazilian National Project.

Gustavo Barroso (1888-1959) was one of the most important figures of integralism. Chief of militias, author of a significant anti-Semitic bibliographic production, his project of Brazil is based on the opposition to the Jew. He was a supporter of fascism states, aligned with the conservative sectors of Brazil in the 1930’s, Barroso thought that the country as it was purged of what he considered to be 'Jewish creations', such as liberalism, Marxism or anarchism. His national project was elitist and based on combating the popular trends, it was founded on a Christian social state (an organic democracy), in which there was no room for the desires of smaller groups to the detriment of true national interests. Barroso will think of Brazil through the ideology of the political and religious movement of Sigma, which would establish his bibliographic production as a true anti-Semitic campaign.
