Founded before 1492 in Lisbon, the All-Saints Royal Hospital was the first public hospital built in Portugal by royal initiative. The building defined the design of the city, its public spaces and became a symbol of royal power and urbanism until the beginning of its demolition in 1775. Based on the administrative documentation belonging to the hospital archive, editions by authors of the time, iconography of the city and various documentation of other funds, the text seeks to contribute to the understanding of the building and its characterization as a health space. It is also intended to analyze the hospital as a social place, as an ordering element of urban space, and as a civic symbol prestigious of its promoters, in line with other European hospitals that have been studied by Félez (1979), Bianchi and S?o? (2006) and Piccini (2016).
