Resumo: In geological favorable areas, mining is an alternative occupation for farmers. In this way, we sought to analyze a relationship between a mining and family farming in Rio Grande do Norte and its microregion of Estern Seridó, using geological data and the Agricultural Census 2006. As a methodological procedure for bibliographical and documentary research, and the production of maps from the IBGE database (Census of Agriculture 2006) and the CPRM (mineral resources of Rio Grande do Norte) in order to establish a relationship between the two activities. It was concluded that there is an intrinsic relation between a mining and a family farming in Rio Grande do Norte and mainly not Eastern Seridó, where a quantity of mining, mainly artisanal mining, is very large, revealing a need for investigation of the individuals who carry out these two Activities not only in the Eastern Seridó, but also in other regions where mineral resources are concentrated and from mineral exploration.

Así, este trabajo buscó analizar la relación entre la minería y la agricultura familiar en Rio Grande do Norte y su micro región de Seridó Oriental, a través de datos geológicos y el Censo Agrícola 2006. Como procedimientos metodológicos, se utilizó la investigación bibliográfica, documental y la producción de mapas de la base de datos IBGE (ingresos de la exploración mineral - Censo Agricola 2006) y CPRM (recursos minerales de Rio Grande do Norte) para establecer una relación entre las dos actividades. Se concluyó que existe una relación intrínseca entre la minería y la agricultura familiar en Rio Grande do Norte y, principalmente en Seridó Oriental, donde la cantidad de minería, especialmente artesanal, es muy grande, lo que revela la necesidad de investigación por parte de las personas que ejercen estas actividades. dos actividades no solamente en el Seridó Oriental, pero también en otras regiones donde se concentran los recursos minerales y los ingresos de la exploración mineral.Em áreas geologicamente favoráveis, a mineração é uma ocupação alternativa para os agricultores. Dessa forma, buscou-se nesse trabalho analisar a relação existente entre a mineração e a agricultura familiar no Rio Grande do Norte e em sua microrregião do Seridó Oriental, através dos dados geológicos e do Censo Agropecuário 2006. Como procedimentos metodológicos foram utilizados a pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e a produção de mapas a partir do banco de dados do IBGE (receitas provenientes da exploração mineral – Censo Agropecuário 2006) e da CPRM (recursos minerais do Rio Grande do Norte) para assim ser possível estabelecer uma relação entre as duas atividades.
