A peripheral intellectual in Paris: trauma and creation in Une Mélancolie Arabe, by Abdellah Taïa

Resumo: The relationships between trauma, melancholy and artistic creation, in the autofiction Une Mélancolie Arabe (2008), by Abdellah Taïa, are the background for the cinematographic and literary initiation of the protagonist, Abdellah, a Moroccan living in Paris. The purpose of this article is to show that this narrator-character, from a peripheral country, when experiencing the mourning of his origin and the cultural idealization of the host country, problematizes a relevant issue for comparative literature, debating, during return trips to countries Arabs, the idealization of the French capital as a reference for intellectual training. The hypothesis put forward is that, when experiencing initiatory rituals, in which artistic work and social and erotic interactions intertwine, the narrator finds himself confronted with the imaginary frustration embodied by the body and language of the other, ending up reinventing his place as a francophone writer. The theoretical-methodological contribution consists of the concepts of melancholy, by Sigmund Freud; não-lugar da literatura, by Eneida Souza; différance, by Jacques Derrida; ethical violence, by Judith Butler; and minor language, by Deleuze and Guattari.

Procedente de un país periférico, el narrador-personaje problematiza un tema relevante para la literatura comparada, debatiendo, en viajes de regreso a países árabes, la idealización de la capital francesa como referente de formación intelectual. En una red de rituales iniciáticos, en los que se entrelazan trabajo artístico e interacciones sociales y eróticas, se enfrenta a la frustración imaginaria encarnada por el cuerpo y el lenguaje del otro, terminando por reinventar su lugar como escritor francófono. En este artículo analizo estas relaciones recurriendo a los conceptos de melancolía, de Sigmund Freud; não-lugar da literatura, de Eneida Souza; différance, de Jacques Derrida; la violencia ética, de Judith Butler; y lengua menor, de Deleuze y Guattari.Les relations entre traumatisme, mélancolie et création artistique, dans l'autofiction Une Mélancolie Arabe (2008), d'Abdellah Taïa, sont la toile de fond de l'initiation cinématographique et littéraire du protagoniste, Abdellah, un Marocain vivant à Paris. Venu d'un pays périphérique, le narrateur-personnage problématise une question relevant de la littérature comparée, débattant, lors de voyages de retour dans les pays arabes, de l'idéalisation de la capitale française comme référence de formation intellectuelle. Dans un tissu de rituels initiatiques, où s'entremêlent travail artistique et interactions sociales et érotiques, il est confronté à la frustration imaginaire incarnée par le corps et le langage de l'autre, finissant par réinventer sa place d'écrivain francophone. Dans cet article, j'analyse ces relations, en me basant sur concepts de mélancolie, de Sigmund Freud ; não-lugar da literatura, d'Eneida Souza ; différance, de Jacques Derrida ; la violence éthique, de Judith Butler ; et langue mineure, par Deleuze et Guattari.As relações entre trauma, melancolia e criação artística, na autoficção Une Mélancolie Arabe (2008), de Abdellah Taïa, são o pano de fundo da iniciação cinematográfica e literária do protagonista, Abdellah, marroquino domiciliado em Paris. O objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar que esse narrador-personagem, oriundo de um país periférico, ao vivenciar o luto de sua origem e da idealização cultural do país hospedeiro, problematiza uma questão relevante para a literatura comparada, debatendo, durante viagens de retorno a países árabes, a idealização da capital francesa como referência de formação intelectual. A hipótese aventada é que, ao vivenciar rituais iniciáticos, nos quais se imbricam trabalho artístico e interações sociais e eróticas, o narrador vê-se confrontado com a frustração imaginária encarnada pelo corpo e pela língua do outro, terminando por reinventar seu lugar como escritor francófono.
