Religious adherence and sexual careers: narratives of conflicts and confluences between Christian religiosity and non-hegemonic sexualities

The article aims to present, based on investigations carried out through field research at the Pinheiro Baptist Church, located in the city of Maceió (AL), the processes of mutation of the worldview on the relationship between Christian religiosity and non-hegemonic sexualities of five homosexual members, through fragments of their life stories. The transition from a negative understanding, focused on the concept of sin, to a positive notion, anchored in the worldview that God is no respecter of persons, is explored as a key fact, reflecting disputes in the social fabric, also highlighting the roles of the Church do Pinheiro and other elements internal and external to the religious group in the construction of a structure capable of providing recognition and cohesion to gay followers, remodeling the mental schemes that drive the social action of these religious actors inside and outside the temple.
