CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA ZONA RIPÁRIA E ALTERAÇÃO DO USO E OCUPAÇÃO DO SOLO DE UM RESERVATÓRIO NO SEMIÁRIDO TROPICAL

Annually, agricultural and livestock production increases considerably causing major changes in the use of rural land occupation. According to some studies this expansion has been detected in riparian zones located in large reservoirs used for water public supply or others uses. The practice of agriculture and livestock in the surroundings of these water bodies, causes changes in the quality of the soil due their characteristics. In addition, consequently, they promote changes in the water quality of the reservoirs due to the lack from the gallery forest surrounding this water body. In order to support decision-making in the management of these areas, monitoring through satellite images/drones and the application of geoprocessing techniques has being widely used nowadays. Therefore, the aim of this study was to make a temporal analysis, through geoprocessing techniques, of land use and occupation in riparian zone from Dourado Reservoir, Currais Novos/RN, correlated with data from soil and water quality. Thus, it was obtained images from google earth, collected in 2011 and 2017, performing the processing by all digital image in ArcGis 10.2 software. The classes in the area were determined based on image analysis and on-site visits, such as water, livestock, grassland, caatinga and urban area. The percentages of the existing classes in the area were obtained from the classification of the image. Soil and water quality data were obtained through collection in situ and laboratory analyzes. And the correlations were made from the software Statistical Analyzes System - SAS. Some attributes of soil quality (physical and chemical) had correlations with each other, indicating direct influences from agricultural and livestock practices on the alterations. It was also verified the relation from the anthropic activities with the increase of the erosion from soil around the reservoir and consequently alteration from water quality. In conclusion, special attention is needed for the management of these areas, emphasizing the importance of the gallery forest, in order to avoid diffuse pollution and the contribution from sediments in the reservoir.
