Information management is an important item in routine health service, beeing accomplished by obtaining data from patient record. The goal of this Project was to develop an eletronic patient record directed to patient care in UFRN Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery due to limitations in traditional records registration and the lack of standardization of data recorded, incomplete or illegible information, in addition to problems in the conservation and storage of dental records on paper. The project consisted of three phases, the first beeing the study of existing department patient’s records, followed by data organization in PostgreSQL database management system and presentation on the web application, and the third to implement a specialist’s panel to validate the electronic instrument. This project resulted in the development of an open software platform to be used in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the possibility of constant improvement. The software implementation aims to optimize patient care, service organization and to facilitate data cataloging by creating a solid base for teaching and research purpose in addition to indirectly promote individual and communities health improvements.
