Resumo: The present work aims to portray the economic situation, assets, financial and operating of Companhia de Águas e Esgotos do Rio Grande do Norte-CAERN, concessionaire responsible for water distribution and sewage collection and treatment, present in 153 municipalities in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), constituted in the form of mixed, linked to the Government of the State of RN. For it will be used some of the techniques of analysis of financial statements. With the aid of the balance sheet statements and statement of income for the year will be used as Vertical Analysis tools, Horizontal Analysis, liquidity Ratios, Debt ratios, discriminant analysis, among others, which will be responsible for 22 different indexes calculation in order to convey the real situation of the company. The methodology used in developing this monograph was bibliographical research, documentary, quantitative and qualitative explanatory, to carry out a case study in the entity using information from the years 2012, 2013 and 2014. The interpretation of indicators allows you to issue an opinion stating that the company is in a favorable situation, especially in debt ratios, liquidity and working capital, which show that the CAERN has short-term debts less than the long term, and that its equity is greater than its obligations despite a slight drop in discriminant analysis of Elizabetsky and viability indices meet relatively low. In this context, were given suggestions to managers so that the company can improve its shortcomings.

In this context, were given suggestions to managers so that the company can improve its shortcomings.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo retratar a situação econômica, patrimonial, operacional e financeira da Companhia de Águas e Esgotos do Rio Grande do Norte - CAERN, concessionária responsável pela distribuição de água e coleta e tratamento de esgotos, presente em 153 municípios do estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), constituída sob a forma de sociedade de economia mista, vinculada ao Governo do Estado do RN. Para isso serão utilizadas algumas das técnicas da Análise das Demonstrações Contábeis. Com o auxílio das demonstrações Balanço Patrimonial e Demonstração do Resultado do Exercício serão utilizadas ferramentas como Análise Vertical, Análise Horizontal, Quocientes de Liquidez, Índices de Endividamento, Análise Discriminante, entre outros, que serão responsáveis pelo cálculo de 22 índices diferentes para que se consiga transmitir a real situação da empresa. A metodologia utilizada no desenvolvimento desta monografia foi pesquisa bibliográfica, documental, explicativa, quantitativa e qualitativa para assim realizar um estudo de caso na entidade utilizando informações dos anos de 2012, 2013 e 2014. A interpretação dos indicadores permite emitir parecer informando que empresa se encontra em situação favorável, especialmente nos índices de endividamento, liquidez e capital de giro, que mostram que a CAERN possui dívidas de curto prazo inferiores as de longo prazo, e que o seu capital próprio é maior do que suas obrigações, apesar de uma ligeira queda na análise discriminante de Elizabetsky e os índices de rentabilidade se encontrarem relativamente baixos.
