ABSTRACT The troubled time that the country is experiencing, especially in the economic area, causes some intimidation in the companies about the future. Thus, organizations need some preparation and care in order to prevent the situation from getting worse. The financial field gets more attention on these occasions, because a botched analysis and a wrong control may cost the organization. Therefore, more attention should be given to this sector, because when it formulates a good financial planning and performing it with the aid of financial controls, the organization is strengthened to face any crisis. Thus, this study will examine whether the “Redecon Shop da Construção” makes use of planning and financial controls in their diary activities, but also proposes to: identify the financial controls, verify that they are monitored routinely, check whether the organization has a financial planning and ascertain whether this financial planning is really prepared and implemented. The theoretical framework basically encompasses: the importance of financial management, the functions of the Financial Director, Financial Planning and the main financial controls. Regarding the analysis of the results, we seek to question two employees working in the finance area about what are the financial controls used and if the company has a Financial Planning (the responses of them were positive but with different opinions). In conclusion, we emphasize once again to the importance of Financial Management as a factor that keeps companies on the market.
