Resumo: It is clear that as time goes by the unconventional hydrocarbon resources will play an important role in meeting the regional and global energy demand. One of the unconventional resources and that is also considered by many as being an important new energy source that will help meeting the world’s growing demands is the Canadian oil sands. It is believed that the they contain about 300 billion barrels of oil with about 170 billion barrels being recoverable with existing technology. There are two methods of production in oil sands, which are surface mining and in situ production, while the surface mining is only viable in about 20% of the oil sands resources, the other 80% are explored using methods of in situ production, more specifically the SAGD. This work aims to conduct a study through a bibliographic review, qualitatively evaluating the artificial lift methods that can be used after the application of SAGD in the Canadian oil sands, such as: Gas Lift, electric submersible pump and progressive cavity pumping system. Showing their advantages and disadvantages and describing in which situations each lift method should be used.
