The Parnaíba Basin, classified as one of the great Paleozoic syneclises of Brazil, is located in the northeastern Brazilian region and extends through a sedimentary area of 665,888 km2, between the states of Maranhão and Piauí, including parts of Tocantins, Pará, Ceará, and Bahia. In the last years, exploratory activities in the region have had a notable rise, the target of high investments, nevertheless, it is still considered little explored in view of its great size and due to limiting geographical factors. This work contributes with a bibliographical review of the regional geology and petroleum systems of the Parnaíba Basin, and a correlation study of the well logs information with a time-migrated seismic section, in order to identify the geological formations of the main petroleum system. Data from well 1CA-0001-MA and seismic line 0317-0103 were used, and PETREL software was used to make a correlation study. In the well logs, the main formations associated with the petroleum systems of the Paraiba basin were identified, however, in the correlation of the logs with the seismic section, it was well identified only the Pimenteiras-Cabeças petroleum system.
