Resumo: A current reflection on teaching practice brings up a series of challenges that teachers need to overcome in order to promote quality education. The study carried out in this article aims to present and discuss the main challenges currently faced by teachers, analyzing which of these challenges are present in the daily life of teachers from the initial years of two schools in the municipality of Martins, Rio Grande do Norte: Raimunda Educational Center Barreto and the Almino Afonso State School. To perform it, a bibliographical review of studies already carried out that approached this theme was carried out, thus elaborating a theoretical framework capable of supporting the study. Soon after a series of interviews with the five professors of the initial years that they taught in the schools described above were realized. The results show that teachers in the city of Martins find challenges similar to those found by other Brazilian teachers: devaluation of the profession, lack of discipline of students, overcrowding of classrooms, absence of family in school, among others. However, such teachers always seek strategies to overcome such challenges and always offer the best possible education for the children of the municipality of Martins.

O estudo realizado nesse artigo objetiva elencar e discutir os principais desafios impostos atualmente à prática docente, analisando quais desses desafios estão presentes no dia a dia dos professores dos anos iniciais de duas escolas do município de Martins, Rio Grande do Norte: o Centro Educacional Raimunda Barreto e a Escola Estadual Almino Afonso. Para desempenhá-lo, realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica de estudos já realizados que abordam essa temática, elaborando assim um referencial teórico capaz de fundamentar o estudo realizar. Logo após realizou-se uma série de entrevistas com os cinco professores dos anos iniciais que lecionam nas escolas acima descritas. Os resultados alcançados mostram que os professores do município de Martins encontram desafios semelhantes aos encontrados pelos demais professores brasileiros: desvalorização da profissão, indisciplina dos alunos, superlotação das salas de aula, ausência da família na escola, dentre outros.
