Each year, the geosynthetic materials utilization grows in the construction industry and it often becomes a solution to some obstacles that arise during the execution of constructions. The notoriety of this material is due to its multiple functions, associated with its easy installation. Despite the benefits associated with this material, in order to be viable in its implementation, there should be an analysis as to the cost of its employment.This study, therefore, aimed at elaborating a technical analysis and an analysis of the costs of the application of geocells to the reinforcement of shallow foundations through a case study. The study had, as a reference, the building of a parking lot in Capim Macio, located in Natal-RN, in which shallow foundations (footing) were used. The research was divided in two main steps. The first one covered a technical analysis to the design of foundations for two different situations: unreinforced foundation soil; and geocells reinforced soil. The second one included an economical analysis, with regard to the costs of both mentioned situations. The results have shown that, with the use of geocells, the estimated costs for the implementation of the footing have been found about 55% lower when compared to the unreinforced case.
