This work is based on the importance of monitor for the Music Band of the municipality of Cruzeta (RN), outlining a brief history of brazilian legislation - Law 5.540/68 which deals with the University Reform. The choice of this Music Band due to the fact that she is a pioneer in dealing with this new teaching model having as main objective to give opportunity to young students through acting/training as a monitor. Brings stories and experiences of musicians formed by its own Band and the story of its conductor, Maestro Humberto Carlos Dantas (Bembém) who realized the need of the monitor for the technical development of the music school instrumentalists. This paper seeks to understand the role of the monitor for the development of the musicians of the Band and its importance in the teaching-learning process of the own students monitors. To conduct this work, semistructured interviews with the band members (teachers, instructors, ex-monitors and also the godmother Band teacher Margaret Keller), literature, reading and analysis of images were performed. Brings a cutting from another music band that followed the monitoring model adopted by the Cruzeta´s Music Band to illustrate the importance of the monitor to the musical development of its members.
