Resumo: Introduction: The increase in the prevalence of elderly people with Diabetes Mellitus is worrying. The changes caused by the advancement of the age added to the damages caused by this disease make diabetes the objective of studies. Objective: To characterize the elderly with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) regarding the number and type of foot alterations and to relate them to the postural control, using the Mini BESTest. Method: This is an observational, cross-sectional study whose sample consisted of 68 elderly individuals over 60 years old, diagnosed with DM2 and both sexes. The analyzed variables were classified into sociodemographic, clinical-functional and postural control systems. Results: The sample was characterized by a female majority (64.7%), white (42.6%), schooling until incomplete primary (30.9%), and mean age 69.47 ± 6.82 years. Self-report of general good health (51.5%) and 39.7% were regular physical activity practitioners. They obtained a mean BMI of 28.21 ± 4.41 kg / m2 and a mean of 3.18% ± 0.73 of diseases; Use of drugs with a mean number of 6.04 ± 2.65; Diagnosis of DM2 with a mean of 15.54 ± 11.90 years; Fasting glycemia averaged 149.82 ± 70.59 mg / dL; Complaint of pain in the lower limbs in 60.3% of the elderly, with mean and standard deviation (SD) of the VAS 4.18 ± 3.96. Number of changes in feet with a mean of 2.07 ± 0.73. The overall mean of the Mini BESTest was 75.29% and DP 19.20, in which the postural responses test presented the lowest mean (57.90 ± 31.80). There was a significant correlation between Mini BESTest and age (ρ = -0.578; p = 0.001). There was a significant association between the Mini BESTest and the variables: age range (p <0.002), number of changes in feet (p = 0.047), callosities (p = 0.011), trophic changes in the skin (p = 0.041) and hyperkeratosis = 0.024). Conclusion: Changes in feet in elderly diabetic type 2 are related to the damage of postural control.

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do NorteUFRNBrasilFisioterapiaIdoso.
