The discovery of the factors that have the greatest influence on solid waste disposal are crucial to solving various problems in urban areas of large and small cities that with development have grown disorganized and without plans to manage their solid waste. Our objective is to discover the main factors that influence the destination of solid waste in the city of Natal-RN. In this purpose, we carried out 50 mixed questionnaires with closed and open questions in the neighborhood of Alecrim, a neighborhood of great population representativeness of the city, with questions of socioeconomic character, specific knowledge and behavioral with a focus on the attitudes towards the residues of their houses. We evaluated the results by comparing the variables tested by analyzing the difference in behavior among the interviewees, based on their personal and locational characteristics. We observed that the variable distance from the collection point presented the best performance, where all interviewees who knew a point of collection near their residence destined their residues to it. In contrast to the expected, no difference was identified in the destination of solid waste in different administrative areas as expected, that is, independent of the administrative area that the interviewee lived in that defined the destination of their waste was the recognition of some collection point nearby Of his residence.
