Avaliação da adsorção de cobre a partir de carvão ativado obtido quimicamente do bagaço de cana de açúcar

Resumo: The main objective of the work was to do an adsorption study with activated carbon produced from the sugarcane bagasse with a focus on the removal of copper metal from contaminated effluents. The experimental methodology of the study consistes of tests to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon, in a batch system with a reactor with volume of 25 ml, aided by a thermostatic bath and a jacket. The tests were performed at a temperature of 30 ° C with Copper Sulphate solutions, which had concentrations of 200 ppm of Copper in a first test and 50 ppm of Copper in the other, both in contact with 25 mg of activated charcoal in each assay. Each trial had 24 hours long. Samples from each assay followed a collection sequence of 2, 4, 6, 22 and 24 hours. After each collection, a sample was taken to a centrifuge for a separation of each phase (solid = activated carbon, liquid = copper sulphate solution). Standard curves were prepared to determine a residual copper concentration in the solution after contact with the activated carbon from the atomic absorption spectroscopy equipment. From the calibration curve, it is possible to calculate the concentrations of the samples, which were also read to the atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) equipment. For each copper concentration range there is a relative wavelength. In this case, the calibration curve was constructed with standards 1-280 ppm Copper Sulfate, whose corresponding wavelength is 222.6 nm. In the test with a solution of 200 ppm of Copper the removal was of 10% of Copper with 6 hours of contact. At the end of 24 hours the removal was 12%. For the second 50 ppm Copper test, 18% was obtained after 4 hours and there was no further significant removal from these 4 hours. The study showed a pseudo-second order kinetics and Freundlich isotherms for the two assays. For characterization carbon, FRX, DRX, MEV and BET analyzes were performed.

A metodologia experimental do estudo consiste em ensaios para avaliar a capacidade de adsorção do carvão ativado em um sistema em batelada com um reator com volume de 25 ml, auxiliado por um banho termostático e uma jaqueta. Os ensaios foram realizados a uma temperatura de 30 °C, com soluções de Sulfato de Cobre, as quais possuíam concentrações de 200 ppm de Cobre num primeiro ensaio e 50 ppm de Cobre no outro, ambos em contato com 25 mg de carvão ativado em cada ensaio. Cada ensaio tiveram duração de 24 horas. As amostras de cada ensaio seguiram uma sequência de coleta de 2, 4, 6, 22 e 24 horas. Após cada coleta, uma amostra era levada para uma centrífuga para uma separação de cada fase (sólida = carvão ativado, líquida = solução de sulfato de cobre). Foram preparadas curvas padrão para determinar a concentração de Cobre residual na solução após o contato com o carvão ativado a partir no equipamento de espectroscopia de absorção atômica. A partir da curva de calibração, pode-se calcular as concentrações das amostras, as quais também foram lidas no equipamento de espectrofotometria de absorção atômica (EAA). Para cada faixa de concentração de Cobre existe um comprimento de onda referente. Neste caso, a curva de calibração foi construída com padrões 1-280 ppm de Sulfato de Cobre, cujo comprimento de onda correspondente é de 222,6 nm. No ensaio com solução de 200 ppm de Cobre a remoção foi de 10% de Cobre com 6 horas de contato. Ao fim das 24 horas a remoção foi de 12%. Para o segundo ensaio de 50 ppm de Cobre, obteve-se 18% ao fim de 4 horas e não houve mais remoção significante a partir destas 4 horas.
