Resumo: | Vitamin A estimate diet of women who received labour treatment in the private and public health services. PURPOSE: To estimate and compare Vitamin A diet of women in labour, who received treatment in both the public and private health services of Natal (RN). METHODS: The study was the transversal type, on mothers who received treatment in 5 hospitals of Natal (three public and two private), in which dietary data was collected through a Frequency of Food Diet Report (QFCA) to estimate the Vitamin A diet in the last trimester gestation. The estimate was made through a software called AVANUTRI 4.0. The values were compared to the Estimated Average Requirement, which is recommended to populational studies. For statistical data analysis, the program BioEstat 5.3 was the one used. The general consumption of Vitamin A was analysed by the test t of Student test with significance level of 5%. Later, this consumption was divided according to its source, animal or vegetal, and the Hotelling test was applied, to multivariate analysis. RESULTS: The major part of the mothers who received treatment in the public service had an income inferior or equal to the minimum wage (80,65%), and high school completed (35,48%). In the private service, the major part had and income up to the minimum wage (43,24%) and complete graduation (43,24%). Concerning the knowledge involving food sources and the importance of Vitamin A, 75,81% of the participants of the public service and 43,24% of the participants of the private service declared to have no knowledge in the matter. The median values of the estimate vitamin A in public and private maternity hospital were 839,0 ± 566,1 µgRAE and 1337,7 ± 967,7 µgRAE, respectively. The t of Student test showed significant difference (p=0,0005) in the researched groups. Once the food sources were separated, in animal or vegetal, the study showed 373,70 ± 376,09 µgRAE and 465,34 ± 422,31 µgRAE, respectively, for the public hospitals. In the same way, in the private hospitals the study showed 597,1 ± 480,80 and 740,6 ± 486,92 from animal and vegetal sources, respectively. Doing the multivariate analysis, Hotelling test, there was no significant difference (p=0,9991). CONCLUSION: The Vitamin A consumption is adequate according to the recommendation from both of the groups studied, but the mothers from the private service have higher levels of consumption than the women from the public service. |
