This study aims to analyze the profile of the Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI) in the city of Santa Cruz / RN, describing the size, classification, causes of default and suggesting measures of solution for the default. It is a descriptive research, in which the instrument used was a structured questionnaire, the scope of the research is 1,120 MEI according to the portal of the entrepreneur, the population of the city of Santa Cruz is approximately 39,667 according to IBGE (2017), the sample was of the simple random type, composed of 294 MEI in the period from 2012 to 2017. In relation to the socio-demographic profile of the research, the majority are male, with age between 25 and 35 years and the majority also has a high school diploma. Most have been formalized for 2 years with the formalization being carried out at SEBRAE and considered that they have received the necessary information to carry out the MEI activities. Only a small number of people still consider that they are not aware of their rights in the INSS. Regarding the delays of payment to the INSS, the majority have been delayed in a few months, the main reason being, forgetfulness, lack of resources and / or information. MEI that have been or are in default, it was verified that the way to solve the problem of the delay of the payments to the INSS, would be sending the bills via mail, e-mail or reminders by the cell phone.
