Resumo: The main objective of this thesis is to reduce the concentration of Ca + ions in tap water from an industrial unit located in Malaga, Australia. For this, the filtration method was used in conjunction with the ion exchange method. The system in question consists of a sediment filter connected by copper pipes to an activated carbon filter and an ion exchange column which is connected to a brine tank which regenerates the ion exchange resins. Water samples were taken at the beginning of the process, after each equipment and at the end of the process. The calorimeter equipment was used to quantify the concentration of Calcium, Chlorine and Iron Carbonate contained in the tap water. After the passage of the water through the process it was possible to determine a significant reduction of hardness, in addition it was possible to determine the saturation of this system, which mean the maximum volume of water that the system is able to treat.

Para isso, utilizou-se o método de filtração em conjunto com o método de troca iônica. O sistema em questão é composto por um filtro de sedimento conectado por tubos de cobre a um filtro de Carvão ativado e a uma coluna de troca iônica que é conectada a um tanque de salmoura cuja função é favorecer a regeneração das resinas de troca iônica. Amostras de água foram retiradas no início do processo, na saída de cada equipamento e ao final do processo. Foi utilizado o equipamento calorímetro para quantificar a concentração de Carbonato de Cálcio, Cloro e Ferro contidos na água analisada.
