Currently, there is much talk about the economic and social importance of the Brazilian housing policy that was created in the management of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2009, known as the Minha Casa Minha Vida (PMCMV) Program. This is evidenced by the widespread dissemination in the literature and in the media about the generation of jobs, the heating of the productive chain of construction, the fight against the effects of the 2008 international crisis and, above all, the reduction of the housing deficit driven by the program. Due to this relevance, in order to reveal if there was any inspiration for the creation of the program conceived in Brazil, there was a desire to point out similarities between housing policies among other Latin countries: Chile and Mexico. Thus, through a review of the available literature, a historical recovery of the Brazilian housing issue was carried out until the creation of the PMCMV, as well as the housing credit programs developed in Chile and Mexico were analyzed to identify the characteristics that prove the issue involved . It was concluded, then, the existence of similarities in the adoption of institutional and financing models that inspired Brazil as evidenced in the analysis of the PMCMV together withChile and Mexico.
