Resumo: | With the growing interest in renewable and sustainable energy sources, biomass becomes an important alternative for the production of biofuels and bioproducts for the partial replacement of fossil fuels. Large quantities of lignin are produced by the Pulp and Paper Industry through the kraft process, making it one of the most available biomass source of aromatics in the world. This work has the purpose to characterize Kraft lignin and evaluate the yield of renewable aromatics at different flash pyrolysis temperatures. Biomass was characterized by ultimate and proximate analysis, high heating value, bulk density and thermogravimetric analysis. Analytical pyrolysis was developed at temperatures of 400, 500 and 600 degrees Celsius using a Py 5200 HP-R micro-pyrolyzer connected to the gas chromatograph. The results demonstrate that this biomass presents itself as a good source of energy, with a high calorific value, providing a greater thermal yield in the degradation process. However, this biomass presented a low content of volatiles for pyrolysis and a high content of ash. Pyrolysis products have the main formation of phenolic compounds and aromatic products with methoxy groups. The highest amount of phenolic compounds was obtained at 600 °C, but with the increase in temperature, there was a decrease in the amount of aromatics produced. Despite the low volatile content, the presence of aromatic compounds makes the study of Kraft lignin pyrolysis interesting because of its great potential as a renewable raw material for energy and chemical products of high added value. |

Grandes quantidades de lignina são produzidas pela Indústria de Papel e Celulose através do processo kraft, tornando-a como uma das biomassas fonte de aromáticos mais disponível no mundo. Este trabalho teve como objetivo a caracterização energética da lignina Kraft e avaliação do rendimento de aromáticos renováveis em diferentes temperaturas de pirólise flash. A biomassa foi caracterizada através da análise imediata e elementar, poder calorífico, densidade aparente e análise termogravimétrica. A pirólise analítica foi desenvolvida nas temperaturas de 400, 500 e 600°C utilizando um micro pirolisador Py 5200 HP-R conectado ao cromatógrafo a gás. Os resultados demonstraram que esta biomassa se apresenta como uma boa fonte de energia, com um alto poder calorífico, proporcionando um maior rendimento térmico no processo de degradação. Entretanto, esta biomassa apresentou um baixo teor de voláteis para a pirólise e alto teor de cinzas. Como produtos da pirólise têm-se a formação principal de compostos fenólicos e produtos aromáticos com grupos metoxila. A maior quantidade de compostos fenólicos foi obtida à temperatura de 600°C, entretanto com o aumento da temperatura, houve diminuição na quantidade de aromáticos produzidos.
