Perfil nutricional de mulheres com síndrome dos ovários policísticos: ênfase na Análise do Vetor de Impedância Bioelétrico (BIVA)

Introduction: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most prevalent endocrinopathies among women of reproductive age and is related to reproductive and metabolic disorders. Obesity has a high prevalence of PCOS, which may potentiate existing abnormalities. Therefore, the determination of the body composition of women with the syndrome is of great importance in the evaluation and nutritional care of these women. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which the nutritional status of 30 women with PCOS was evaluated through anthropometric and bioelectrical parameters. In order to define the anthropometric profile, we verified the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Perimeter (WP), and for the bioelectric, the estimated body composition and the analysis of the phase angle (FA) and the vector of impedance (BIVA). Results: Almost all of the evaluated patients (96.7%) were obese or overweight, in addition to an increased risk (26.7%) or substantially increased (73.3%) for cardiovascular diseases. On the body composition, a good hydration and normal cellularity was verified, however, an increased percentage of fat mass (41.56%). Conclusions: The study findings reinforce the predominance of overweight and the prevalence of central adiposity in women with PCOS. The anthropometric, body composition and bioelectric parameters had the same outcome in PCOS and were useful for interventions with the group and for a complete and reliable nutritional diagnosis.
