Evolução da estrutura econômica do Rio Grande do Norte: evidências da ausência da industrialização

This work analyzes the conditioning factors of the industrialization process, pointing out main movements that turned possible the Brazilian industrial development, focusing on the Northeast and in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Economists discourse about Northeast’s industrial situation, giving attention to the problem of industrial concentration, that gave exceptional industrial development to Southeast and South regions but left behind the other regions that never managed to reach similar levels, raising the question if the behavior of Rio Grande do Norte’s per-capita income is also explained by the industrial development, with the hypothesis that the state hasn’t achieved levels of industrialization, so that evolutions in per capita income will be unattached of the industrial development. In order to verify the concentrated industrialization effects and the existence of industrialization in Rio Grande do Norte, it was done a literature review about the referred related subjects, and an analysis with data collected from IPEADATA/IBGE. It was concluded that its industry is static, stagnant and devoid of efficient impulses that make it take a path towards development. The evolution of per capita income does not result from the evolution of transformation industry, which indicates industrial stagnation, without perspective of changing this trajectory.
