Alternative construction material and methods are getting more representatives in architecture due to the global moment we are and the concern about the depletion of natural and energy resources. However, unconventional constructive systems are still poorly widespread on Brazilian society, especially on northeast region, due to cultural issues and manpower, like the prefabricated system, or because of lack in regulation as in the clay use. Aiming to enable new ways of construction, this work has the purpose to study this area underexplored willing to disseminate the knowledge, as the market is interested on selling and use what is easier, cheaper and more profitable, transferring to the academy the responsibility to go deeper in technological research. The main objective of this volume consists to study and value the use of a natural material - the clay - in architecture, making it to adapt the current available technology, showing that the millenary technique suits the contemporary context in architecture. A housing draft for the semiarid climate will be developed using earthenware as constructive system. For this application was chosen the city of Caicó, RN, that is part of a project that is bringing higher education from UFRN to the countryside in the next years, offering 485 new study opportunities distributed in 7 new majors, which will represent 2070 new students and 176 new professors until 2018. In this context, it is clear the demand for infrastructure that will be generated by the university in the city, as well as the housing sector, especially near campus. The addressed public, college public, for which the residency will be thought for, it has its particularities and generalities that converge to minimal and flexible housings. In addition to the user’s needs, it will be a project concern the adaptation to the climate of the city (warm and dry), for the environmental comfort.
