Efeito agudo da crioterapia na propriocepção dos músculos do assoalho pélvico em mulheres com incontinência urinária de esforço.

Objective: To investigate the acute effects of cryotherapy on the proprioception of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) of women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Methodology: Longitudinal study with 14 women presenting SUI, aged 35 years or older. There were two days of evaluation: the firs day was anamnesis, one hour absorbent test, functional assessment performed by the PERFECT, using the Oxford Modified Scale, perineometer (Perina-Quark, Brazil), the King's Health Questionnaire (KHQ) and Incontinence Severity Index Questionnaire (ISI-Q). On the second day, endovaginal cryotherapy with ice in the cylindrical format was performed for 40 seconds, followed by a new functional evaluation of the PFM and manometry. The data were analyzed with the program Statistical software 7.0. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to evaluate the normal distribution and the nonparametric Wilcoxon test for intragroup analysis. When p-value ≤0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean age of participants was 53.92 ± 8.53 years, 92.14% of they reported having a partner and the severity of the SUI in ISI-Q had a mean of 4.07 ± 1.89. After the application of cryotherapy, there was an increase in the contraction pressure of the PFM (p = 0.026) and in the functional evaluation there was an increase in the contraction time of the PFM (endurance p = 0.004) and in the repetition of contractions (repetitions p = 0.007). Conclusion: The application of cryotherapy probably had a proprioceptive effect in this study, since it improved the pressure, the time and the number of repetitions of the contractions of the PFM.
