Resumo: TThe preparation of the article provided an opportunity now presented a study, further, on a topic that has long disquieting teachers, analyzing the difficulties that children have to learn to read. The main objective is to understand how is the process of reading the appropriation by the students of the early years of elementary school, analyzing the importance of the school as articulator institution of this process. As a theoretical framework, we sought the positions of scholars with various publications related to the topic as Sacristan (1999), Freire (1998), Oliveira (2008), Martins (2007), Solé (1998) and several others who, for reasons synthesis, it is not quote them. The same was developed obeying a sequence in which, at first, we try to theorize about the importance of reading work from the early years of elementary school. In sequence, it is to systematize the theoretical aspects of the reading and writing process, emphasizing them from the point of view of different scholars. Finally, looking to list a few points about the difficulties in the act of reading in order to have a formal point of view on the subject, pointing to a possible solution of the problem. Thus, it opens up a space reflections about the importance of reading to be inserted into the teacher's pedagogic practice, providing the means to awaken in students the desire to learn, to be and to act.

O objetivo principal é compreender como se dá o processo de apropriação da leitura por parte dos alunos dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental, analisando-se a importância da escola como instituição articuladora desse processo. Como aporte teórico, buscou-se os posicionamentos de estudiosos com diversas publicações relacionadas ao tema como Sacristán (1999), Freire, (1998), Oliveira (2008), Martins (2007), Solé (1998) e vários outros que, por questões de síntese, não cabe citá-los. O mesmo foi desenvolvido obedecendo uma sequência, na qual, num primeiro momento, procura-se teorizar sobre a importância de se trabalhar a leitura desde os primeiros anos do ensino fundamental. Em sequência, trata-se de sistematizar os aspectos teóricos sobre o processo da leitura e da escrita, enfatizando-os sob o ponto de vista de diferentes estudiosos. Por fim, procura-se elencar alguns pontos acerca das dificuldades no ato da leitura, a fim de dispor de um ponto de vista formal sobre o assunto, apontando para uma possível solução da problemática.
