Objective: To evaluate the perception in matters of dental traumatism by the parents of children attended by Natal-RN schools. Methods: Descriptive study within quantitative, qualitative and transversal nature, made of questionnaires application about post dental traumatism behavior. 47 parents or responsible for children of both private and public schools from Natal-RN were interviewed. Besides the questionnaires, social demographic data and information about oral health perception on parents and kids were collected. The questionnaire was made by 10 objective questions with the equal value of 1 point, when responded correct. The result of each questionnaire was used to determine the level of perception, considered low for grates between 0-3, medium between 4-6 and high from 7 to 10. Results: 64% of the parents interviewed showed an average level of perception, only 6% of those presented a high level of perception. The most correctly answered questions about deciduous and permanent teeth were about: Avulsion (51% and 59%); Intrusion (68% and 81%); and Coronary Fracture (68% and 79%), respectively. Conclusion: The parents has presented an average level of perception over dental traumatism. Therefore, it makes necessary the performing of educational activities in order to enhance such a knowledge.
