Resumo: Thus, the objective was to analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility profile and the ability to form a biofilm of Enterococcus spp. isolated from coalho cheese packaged in the industry. 36 samples of coalho cheese sold in hypermarkets in the city of Recife-PE were analyzed. After isolation and identification, 36 isolates of Enterococcus spp. were observed, 44.4% (16/36) Enterococcus faecalis, 44.4% (16/36) Enterococcus faecium and 11.2% (4/36) Enterococcus durans. Of these, 22.2% (8/36) showed resistance to erythromycin, 25% (9/36) to nitrofurantoin, 22.2% (8/36) to tetracycline and 2.7% (1/36) to vancomycin. It was also observed that 22.2% (8/36) were classified as moderate biofilm formers and 77.8% (28/36) as poor formers. The occurrence of Enterococcus spp. resistant to antimicrobials and forming biofilms in the coalho cheese samples evaluated may represent a risk to public health, since these microorganisms are considered emerging and are increasingly related to cases of nosocomial infection. In addition, monitoring susceptibility to vancomycin is important in the control of Enterococcus spp. resistant to vancomycin (VRE), which represents one of the biggest public health problems worldwide.
