Resumo: According to data from ABSOLAR (2022) being solar resources one of the best on the planet, Brazil has experienced an exponential growth of solar photovoltaic technology, with the installed capacity of this clean, renewable and easily accessible source almost doubling year after year. Among the reasons, we highlight the constant increase in the energy tariff that, in recent years, has been intensifying due to climatic factors such as drought in places where it has hydroelectric plants or the high prices of fossil fuels that supply the thermoelectric plants. Thus, solar energy has consolidated itself as a key solution for cost reduction, with greater security in the supply of electricity and increased sustainability in Brazil. Among the existing systems, the photovoltaic system on grid is what today is believed to have the greatest advantage due to the low cost of deployment having an excellent cost benefit in the medium term. This research aimed to analyze the differences between the on grid and off grid system and identify which of these is premised to be an investment or need. The methodology is based on a literature review of descriptive character, using exploratory and analytical method. The evaluation of the results was guided by the data collected from sources specialized in the subject in question, indicating that the on grid system is the most beneficial choice, being considered an investment.
