The Companhia Geral de Comércio do Grão-Pará e Maranhão, created in the second half of the 18th century, aimed to develop trade in the Amazon, through the sale of Africans and the purchase of goods. During the time that the company traded between the African and Amazonian coasts, there were several misfortunes that directly affected the lives and health of the enslaved. Based on documentation from the AHU, APEP and base slave voyages, this article seeks to analyze the misfortunes, specifically illnesses and deaths, that befell African men, women and children during the period in which the Pombaline company had commercial dominance (1755-1778) in the region. amazon. These archival sources show that despite the misfortunes, brigantines, galleys, corvettes and other vessels constantly anchored in the ports of Belém and São Luís to leave the settlers enslaved, on the other hand they took agricultural and extractive goods to Lisbon.
