Dinâmica urbana de Caracaraí : uma pequena cidade da Amazônia Setentrional

The present dissertation aimed to analyze the urban dynamics of Caracaraí in the regional context of Roraima. The concern in analyzing the urban dynamics of the city is due to the fact that it falls under the classification of small cities, and, at the same time, be an interesting stage for investigations on the urban. The study was first started with bibliographic research; later there was documentary research and observation of the study object; after these phases there was the field research, through the application of questionnaires with the residents and interviews with representatives of the public power in the city. The accomplishment of these phases sought as specific objectives: to draw a timeline of the producing agents of its urban space, considering the events of each period of its Geo-History; to map the city’s urban expansion process and; to analyze the importance of Caracaraí as a central 'metropolitan region' in the regional context of Roraima. The results show that urban expansion in the city has its starting point at the 1970s, when this space received an urbanization plan. As well as whereas owners of the means of production, landowners, property developers, the state and socially excluded groups - were and still are present in the city, interfering in the modeling of its urban space. It was also found that although Caracaraí is theoretically established in the Central Metropolitan Region of the state, there is no functional practice of this condition in the city. It is expected that the considerations portrayed in this dissertation may contribute to the relevance of small town discussions, as well as their urban dynamics and their importance in the scenario of the Brazilian urban network.
