Resumo: Composting of organic wastes locally available is an alternative to meet the growing demand for fertilizers and organic substrates. The pressed cane bagasse and castor cake are materials abundant supplied in the region of Janu?ria-MG and in several other regions of Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the composting process of mixing bagasse with castor cake and verify the performance of the product from the production of vegetables grown in the organic system. Composting was carried out with different ratios pressed pomace and crushed grape marc plus castor bean, evaluating various characteristics during the 120 days of process duration. In the second stage we evaluated the performance of the obtained compounds used as substrates in the production of lettuce, beetroot and tomato, compared with a commercial substrate. We also assessed the performance of the compounds as fertilizer for the production of lettuce and beets, using as reference an absolute control and cattle manure. It was observed that different proportions of ground and pressed bagasse pulp do not significantly alter the efficiency of the composting process and characteristics of the obtained compound. The substrates obtained by mixing compost bagasse with castor bean provided the seedlings of good quality, superior to seedlings obtained with the commercial substrate. The organic compound obtained with a mixture of sugarcane bagasse with castor bean replaced manure in the fertilizer lettuce and beetroot in organic production system. The use of bagasse and castor bean is technically feasible to obtain substrates and organic fertilizers.

O baga?o de cana prensado e a torta de mamona s?o materiais de oferta abundante em Janu?ria-MG e em diversas outras regi?es do Brasil. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o processo de compostagem da mistura de baga?o de cana com torta de mamona e verificar o desempenho do composto obtido na produ??o de hortali?as cultivadas em sistema org?nico. A compostagem foi realizada com diferentes propor??es entre baga?o prensado e baga?o mo?do, acrescido de torta de mamona, avaliando-se diversas caracter?sticas ao longo dos 120 dias de dura??o do processo. Em segunda etapa foi avaliado o desempenho dos compostos obtidos como substratos utilizados na produ??o de mudas de alface, beterraba e tomate, comparados com um substrato comercial. Tamb?m foi avaliado o desempenho dos compostos como fertilizante para a produ??o de alface e de beterraba, utilizando-se como refer?ncia uma testemunha absoluta e o esterco bovino. Observou-se que diferentes propor??es entre baga?o prensado e baga?o mo?do n?o modificam significativamente a efici?ncia do processo de compostagem e as caracter?sticas do composto obtido. Os substratos obtidos por meio da compostagem da mistura de baga?o de cana com torta de mamona proporcionou a produ??o de mudas de boa qualidade, superiores ?s mudas obtidas com o substrato comercial. O composto org?nico obtido com a mistura de baga?o de cana com torta de mamona substituiu o esterco bovino na aduba??o de base de alface e de beterraba em sistema org?nico de produ??o.
